New year, new name. STORYSTORM (formerly PiBoIdMo, or Picture Book Idea Month) has blown through communities far and wide, sweeping up hopeful participants in its wake.
I am fortunate to be participating in this fun and inspiring writing challenge once again, with author Tara Lazar (http:\\www.taralazar.com), the creator of STORYSTORM. Love the new name. So fitting! So feisty! So….terrifying!
Each day, writers commit to recording at least one new picture book idea. That’s it. Just one. Shouldn’t frighten or intimidate, right? Well, to be honest, it shakes me up a bit, but I am excited by the prospect of 31 shiny new ideas blowing about in my head and landing on the pages of my notebook. Time to batten down the hatches, so-to-speak, and observe, record, and create.
Picture book authors and illustrators (a.k.a. the “real deals”) are invited to share sparks of wisdom and creativity in daily blog posts, further fueling the winds of change. While doubt may linger, I take shelter under the umbrella of possibility…if they can do it, surely I, too can face the storm head-on, right? It may get mucky. I may feel wind-blown. But I will press on!
And BONUS – there are prizes! Last year I won an invaluable critique session from the amazing Carrie Charley Brown http://www.carriecharleybrown.com/. Receiving detailed feedback on my manuscript from an experienced Children’s Author was a true gift.
Some storms rage, creating mayhem and destruction. But STORYSTORM promises to create clarity and inspiration, so I will forge ahead, pen in hand, ready to weather the storm of ideas funneling through my imagination!
